The Woodland Games — Animal Typing Sports

Ten woodland athletes, five lanes, one keyboard. Your typing speed is the only engine your animal has — race the Forest Dash, charge the Long Jump, and beat the pace on three difficulties.

How to Play The Woodland Games

The Woodland Games is a typing race game: your animal only moves while you type. Every event feeds on words-per-minute and accuracy, so the fastest fingers in the forest win — even if they belong to a tortoise.

Controls

  • Pick your athlete, difficulty and event with the mouse on the title screen, then hit Start (or press Enter).
  • Type the highlighted passage — every correct character drives your athlete forward.
  • In the Forest Dash a wrong key blocks you until you hit the right one; in the Long Jump wrong keys slip through but drag your accuracy down.
  • Press Esc to pause (the music pauses with you). On the results screen, Enter replays the event and Esc returns to the menu.

The events

  • Forest Dash. Five lanes, four rivals, one finish line. Your speed tracks your last ten seconds of typing, and the fastest rival always runs exactly at the difficulty pace — beat the pace WPM and the gold is yours. Places lock the moment the first athlete finishes — then your animal gets its own run through the finish tape.
  • Long Jump. Thirty seconds of all-out typing charge your run-up. Distance is words-per-minute times accuracy, so wild mashing earns nothing. Hit the podium thresholds and watch your athlete fly.

Typing Tips to Win the Woodland Games

  • Watch the pace number, not the other lanes — matching the difficulty WPM keeps you level with the leader, and a touch above it wins the Dash.
  • In the Dash, a blocked cursor means one wrong key: slow down for half a second instead of hammering.
  • In the Long Jump, accuracy multiplies distance — 60 clean WPM beats 80 sloppy WPM.
  • Read one word ahead while your fingers finish the current one; the sentences are short and rhythmic on purpose.
  • Spaces are characters too — keep your thumb relaxed on the space bar.
  • Warm up on Easy (25 WPM pace), then climb: Normal asks for 50, Hard for a serious 80.

The Woodland Games — FAQ

What WPM do I need to win?

The Forest Dash pace is 25 WPM on Easy, 50 on Normal and 80 on Hard — the fastest rival always runs exactly at pace, so typing above it wins. Long Jump gold asks for the same number as effective WPM (speed × accuracy); silver and bronze sit lower, e.g. 65 and 50 on Hard.

Does my animal choice make me faster or slower?

No. Your athlete is pure style — speed comes only from your typing. Rival animals do have personalities: leopards pace the field, tortoises… participate.

How is my speed measured in the Dash?

A rolling ten-second window of correct characters (5 characters = 1 word). Stop typing and your progress coasts to a stop — the athlete keeps jogging on the spot; sprint and it shows within a second or two.

Why did the race end while I was mid-track?

Places are locked the instant the first athlete finishes — a photo finish. Your animal still gets to run through the finish tape before the results appear.

Is The Woodland Games free? Do I need to install anything?

Completely free, no install, no sign-up. It runs in any modern desktop browser with a keyboard.

Does the game have sound?

Yes — looping background music plus effects for countdowns, footsteps, takeoffs, landings and finishes. Pressing Esc pauses the music together with the game.

Are my best results saved?

Your best Dash finish and longest Jump per difficulty are stored locally in your browser. Clearing site data resets them.
