Free Typing Games is a small, independent site hosting four browser typing games. It is the games companion to Free Typing Tests, which handles timed, measured typing tests; this site is where you practise without watching a clock.

Why games instead of drills

Typing improves through volume and attention, and most people cannot sustain either on a drill. A game supplies both as a side effect: you keep playing because you want a better run, and you concentrate because something is happening. Every game here scores your speed and your accuracy — words per minute in Type Alien Blast and The Woodland Games, keys per minute in the single-letter Firework Typer — so the practice is measurable rather than merely fun.

How the games are built

Each game is a self-contained browser application built with Phaser and served as a static page. Nothing is installed, nothing runs on a server, and once a game has loaded it needs no further network access. Your records are written to your own browser and never leave your device.

Who it is for

Students building keyboard skills, adults who type all day and want to type better, and anyone who never learned touch typing properly and would rather not start with a drill program. Everything is free, and there is nothing to sign up for.
